Back to School Checklist for Teachers
Make sure that your staff and team are ready to use Newsela from the moment they return from break:
Admins: if any teachers have left, and you are bulk rostering with Newsela: send a list of departing teachers to your IT Systems Admin and request to have those individuals removed from the roster file that is shared with Newsela.
If you are not bulk-rostering with Newsela; navigate to the Admin Portal to remove the departing teachers manually. Step by step instructions can be found in this linked article.
Similarly, if new teachers are joining this school year, and you are bulk rostering with Newsela: send a list of new teachers to your IT Systems Admin and request to have those individuals added to the roster file that is shared with Newsela.
If you are not bulk-rostering with Newsela, navigate to the Admin Portal to add the new teachers manually. Step by step instructions can be found in this linked article.Admins: while Newsela doesn’t delete any data; classes from the previous school year are recommended to be archived for organizational purposes; and if your school or district is bulk rostering with Newsela these old classes will archive by default. Either way, archived data can always be accessed!
Admins & Teachers: archive 2023-2024 Classes. Archiving a class removes it from students' class lists and removes all assignments and associated quiz data from the Assignments section of your Binder. Quiz results will still appear in the student's Binder, the school administrator's Binder, and the Reading Summary section under independent reading for each student formerly enrolled in that class.
Archiving a ClassClick your initials in the upper right corner. Select Settings.
Click the Class Directory and find the class in your list of classes.
Change the status to Archived
Restore an Archived ClassThe Archived Classes tab is located next to the Classes tab and will store all archived classes.
Click your initials in the upper right corner. Select Settings.
Click the Class Directory and find the class in your list of classes.
Change the status to Activ

Admins & Teachers: Confirm you've saved content you would like to use again next school year by clicking the save button (bookmark icon).
Content will be added to your saved page. You can get to this page by hovering over Your Content at the top of the page and selecting Saved from the drop-down menu.Admins: Book a call with your Success Manager to discuss any changes or updates to your account, rosters, systems, or professional development needs.
Contact your Success Manager ASAP if…You need to renew, change, or expand your subscription.
Your school or district is switching to a different SIS or LMS. We may have new or different integration abilities once you switch over.
You are planning to change email domains or have other significant internal changes that will impact your integration with or usage of Newsela
You have specific needs, changes, or updates for Summer School, or Summer PD.
