Newsela Writing: Getting Started

How do teachers and students access Newsela Writing?

Newsela Writing's Beta experience is currently included with a premium subscription (Newsela ELA, Newsela Science, and Newsela Social Studies). If your school or district has purchased Newsela Premium licenses, teachers and students will have access to Newsela Writing's Beta as part of that license until July 2025.

After July 2025, Newsela Writing will be offered for purchase as an Add-on to a premium subscription. If your school or district has purchased Newsela Premium licenses and is interested in purchasing Newsela Writing for the 2025-2026 school year, please reach out to your dedicated Newsela customer success manager or send our support team a message here, for more information.

Teachers and students will need Newsela accounts in order to use Newsela Writing.

  • For teachers with a premium subscription who need to add their students to Newsela, we recommend following the instructions outlined here.

  • Teachers with a Newsela Lite account who start a free trial of Newsela Premium will have access to Newsela Writing's Beta experience as part of their free trial as long as it lasts and until July 2025 to the latest.

  • Teachers with a Newsela Essentials license do not have access to Newsela Writing because this licensing is not a premium subject subscription.
