What is the Referral Program?

Newsela Lite teachers who are in a 45 day free trial can get a 45 day extension by referring three colleagues to Newsela. 

Who is eligible to use the Referral Program?

• All Lite teachers who are currently in an individual 45 days trial, and have not extended their trial before.

• All Lite teachers whose 45 days trial expired and have not extended their trial before.

Accessing the Referral Program

To access the referral program, Newsela Lite teachers must first claim the initial 45 days free trial from within their account. The Referral Program will become available only after this first step has been completed. 

If you haven’t claimed your initial 45 days free trial yet, please click ‘Start Free Trial’ at the top right corner of your screen

In the next window, proceed to confirm your initial 45 free trial activation:

Teachers with an active 45 days trial

Click on ‘Extend Trial’ located at the far right of the free trial banner, then click on ‘Refer Colleagues’

Teachers with an expired 45 days trial

Click on ‘Extend Trial’ located at the far right of the Newsela Lite banner, then click on ‘Refer Colleagues’

Referring Colleagues

Enter your details at the top of the form, then proceed to fill out the details for your three colleagues. When you are finished click ‘Submit Referral’ at the bottom of the form.

Once your referrals have been submitted you will be redirected to Newsela’s homepage and you’ll see an indication that 45 days of free trial were added at the top right corner of your screen. An updated countdown will be displayed on the free trial banner as well. 

FAQ

• How many times can I use the Referral Program and claim a Trial extension?

  • At this time the Referral Program can be used only once, and only one Trial extension can be claimed with it. 

• I referred 3 colleagues, how soon will I get my free trial extension?

  • The free trial extension will be awarded immediately after submitting the referral form.

• I referred 3 users and didn't get my trial - what do I do?

  • Try again; the trial extension should occur automatically and be reflected on your homepage. If you’re still experiencing this issue please contact Newsela’s Support Team.

• Can I see a record of my referrals within my account? 

  • Not at this time. The Referral form is sent to Newsela’s team and is not recorded within your account.

• I have extended my 45 days trial by referring colleagues and I’m interested in taking the Newsela Certified Educator course. If I take the course will the free trial awarded for completion be added in addition to my current extension or will the two trials run concurrently?

  • A Newsela Certified Educator free trial award will run concurrently with the 45 days trial extension. If you wish for the Newsela Certified Educator free trial award to run separately from the 45 days trial extension, please plan to claim the NCE award after your 45 days extension has expired.
