Read Aloud Feature
Newsela articles include a read aloud feature, which highlights and reads the text of an article aloud.
How to use Read Aloud
Scroll down, and locate the article actions icon bar below the article descriptor
Locate the “Listen” icon (headphones) and click it. The read aloud will automatically begin reading the text.
Click the arrow “rewind” icon to start the read aloud from the article title.
Click the pause button to stop the read aloud.
Click the play button to continue from where the read aloud feature was paused.
Scroll, or use the down arrow key, with the highlighted text to continue to read along with the voiceover.
Click the speed option to slow down the pace of the read aloud.
Click the “Exit X” icon to close the Read Aloud feature.

With the Newsela iOS app, your students can still use our Read Aloud feature.
How to use Read Aloud
Click the “Read Aloud” icon. The read aloud will automatically begin reading the text.

If you are using a mobile device and can't hear the text read aloud, make sure that you have not activated "mute" using the button on the side of your device.
The Read Aloud feature is only available in the iOS version of our app. Android app users will need to use device-specific screenreader functionality to hear content read aloud.
