  • Click Sign In.

  • Click Clever.

  • You’ll see your School/District Clever login page. Log in using your School/District Clever credentials.

  • Note: You can also login to Newsela by clicking the Newsela icon in your Clever portal.

When you log in for the first time

  • Newsela will ask you a few questions about your role and your school. Make sure you select your role of Educator, if prompted.

Importing Classes and Rosters from Clever

  • In Newsela, go to your Classes page by clicking your name in the upper right-hand corner, selecting Settings, the clicking into the Classes tab.

    • For districts that have opted in to Clever Bulk Rostering, you will see that your classes and students have already been imported. No further action is required.

  • Click Sync with Clever.

  • Select the classes you want to import, choose a grade level and subject for each, then click Sync Selected Classes.

    • You may need to wait for the sync to complete.

  • To confirm that your students are in your class, go to your Students tab. Under each class name, you’ll see a list of students in the class. The student roster in Newsela should correspond to the student roster in Clever.

    • If students are missing, please verify that they've been added in Clever. If not, please reach out to your Clever system administrator.

Imported students will see your class on their settings page.
